This Rimu burl i had laying about for a number of years unsure the best way to use it. It's shape was not really suitable to hollow out as a bowl, and finely came up with the idea that it looked a bit like the human brain There is a section of the tree trunk on the back face, this could represent the brain stem. This is mounted on a plinth of New Zealand Puriri
Finish is Woodoc oil, then waxed.

NZ Textured Red Beech Burl 600mm x 340mm x 90mm
Another of my larger N.Z.Red Beech burl bowls, with a small bead around the rim. The outer face was textured with a box core router bit whilst still mounted on the lathe. The dark area was a chainsaw cut which I scorched and textured as well. Would make a lovely feature piece on a table. Sold

NZ Red Beech Burl Feature Piece 470mm x 370mm x 50mm
This N.Z. Red Beech burl has a bead around the rim, with the outer surface having routed grooves evenly spaced by using the indexing plate on the lathe. This area was then scorched, wire brushed, then the grooves dyed red. The underside has four small bun feet and the whole piece Danish oiled.
